Udupi, Feb 9: In a tragic road accident at K G Road near Brahmavar here, a college lecturer was killed on the spot on Friday February 9 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Alfred Lewis (44), a resident of Heroor near Brahmavar.  He was an English lecturer at SMS PU College Brahmavar. 

He was on his way to Udupi driving his car to distribute the invitations of his children's first communion.  The accident occurred when a tanker rammed into his car at K G Road on Friday morning.  Though more details are yet to reach, it is said that he sustained a massive heart attack as soon as the accident occurred. Family sources said that his two children Edna (11) and Aldrich (9) were to receive first communion on Sunday February 11 at St Mary's Syrian Church Brahmavar.

Alfred was the son of Bona and Coses Lewis of Handady and had married Daisy D'Silva, daughter of Mark and Celestine D'Silva.  Daisy is a teacher in a high school here.  The couple had two children.

As soon as the news about the death of Alfred reached the college, the principal announced a day's closure as a mark of respect for the departed soul.  Daijiworld correspondent reporting from Brahmavar said that the body was brought to mortuary a little while ago.  The hospital premises was filled with students and people of the vicinity who all gathered to pay last respect to one of the well-known and revered lecturers of the area.
