Kolkata, Feb 23: A day after the death of popular Bengali film director Anjan Chowdhury at a private hospital in Kolkata following a brief illness, his family on Thursday filed an FIR against the hospital authorities alleging negligence in his treatment, a charge denied by the hospital.

Deputy commissioner of police P K Chatterjee said that the police were awaiting the postmortem report of 63-year-old Chowdhury.

He said Chowdhury's son had filed an FIR with Alipore police station against the authorities of the B M Birla Heart Research Centre.

A member of Chowdhury's family alleged there was 'gross negligence' in the treatment of Chowdhury who slipped into coma after a heart bypass surgery a few days ago. ''The surgery was hastily conducted without doing the required tests,'' he alleged.

A spokesman of the hospital, however, denied the charge of negligence and claimed Chowdhury's family members were handed over all medical reports and papers.

Chowdhury had directed hits like Shatru, Gurudakshina and Chhoto Bou.
