New Delhi, Apr 14 (DHNS): The Centre on Monday issued a notification paving the way for a CBI probe into the mysterious death of IAS officer D K Ravi, a week after the Karnataka government re-sent its request dropping the demand for a time-bound investigation.

The notification was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, which is the CBI’s cadre-controlling authority.

The CBI officials will start investigation “soon” after registering a case and there “will not be any delay”, sources said.

“In exercise of power conferred under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, the Central government with the consent of the State government of Karnataka vide their notification dated April 6 hereby extends the powers of the jurisdiction of the members of Delhi Special Police Establishment to the whole of the state of Karnataka for investigation of a case registered on March 16 into the unnatural death of D K Ravi,” the new notification read.

Ravi’s death on March 16 had triggered a controversy with the IAS officer’s wife and family demanding a CBI probe. However, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was reluctant to order a CBI probe but later gave in after Congress president Sonia Gandhi prodded him.

The case has seen several twists with the State CID investigating whether Ravi’s friendship with a woman IAS officer had any link to his death.
