Mangaluru: Many parts of coast drench in rain, road users hit

Mangaluru, Apr 14: Unexpectedly, light rain soaked various parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasargod districts on Monday April 13 morning. Several of these places had also received either drizzle or light rain on Sunday night. The coast also got some rain on Monday night.

Some of these places experienced lightning and thunder on Monday. Pedestrians, who had not expected rain, had to rush for shelter. Although the coastal region experienced cloudy weather since Monday morning, bright sunshine returned by afternoon.

Padubidri, Kaup, Uchila and surrounding places in Udupi district recorded heavy rain with thunder and lightning for two to three hours since Monday morning. Heavy rain was also reported from some parts of Kasargod district. Loss of agriculture was reported from several of these places in the form of uprooting of areca nut, banana, and coconut trees.

Power supply to many of these regions was disrupted. The meteorological department expects rainy conditions to prevail till April 16.
