Mangaluru: Car-borne gang robs youth seeking a lift

Mangaluru, Apr 14: A complaint stands filed in rural police station here by a youth, who has alleged that a gang of four travelling in the car, who had offered him a drop, had robbed him of cash and cell phone.

The complainant, identified as Ramesh Salian from Kuppepadavu village near here, who works in a canteen located in Puttur, said that he had attended the annual festival at Goddess Rajarajeshwari templel in Polali on Friday night. On Saturday morning, he arrived at the main arch of Polali at 3.30 am and waited for vehicles as he had to reach the city. After a long time, a car came and stopped to pick him up, as he was waving his hands.

Once the car reached Permai Padavu via Kettikkal Amruteshwari Temple, the four persons in the car demanded money for petrol from Ramesh. It was 5.30 am. When Ramesh said he did not have money, they attacked him with hands and an iron rod, snatched away Rs 5,000 found in his pocket, and also his cell phone, Salian claimed.

A case stands registered in the rural police station here relating to the incident. The policemen have begun investigation.
