Mangaluru: KMH Samithi to hold campaigns against drug addiction

Mangaluru, Apr 15: "The newly formed committee, 'Keduku Muktha Horata Samithi (KMHS)' from Kudroli vicinity will hold a campaign against the youth and students who consume drugs like heroin, opium and other narcotic drugs which are evils in our society," said corporator and Keduku Muktha Horata Samithi president Aziz Kudroli.

He was addressing the press meet at press club here on Wednesday April 15.

He also said, “In the vicinity of Kudroli and other places, many youth and students have been addicted to many narcotic drugs and are spoiling their future by consuming them. Hence, some intellectuals in the vicinity have come forward and planned to form an organization called 'Keduku Muktha Horata Samithi' to fight against this evil. The organisation will function from Bokkapattana to Kandathpalli in 9 mohallas. 150 activists will be functioning in this organization to free the youth from this addiction. The committee will be inaugurated on April 17 at 8:45 pm. On April 16, there will be an awareness drive from Kudroli Jamia Masjid to Kandathpalli. After the inauguration of the committee a drive will be held for 15 days to rid the society from this evil”.

Functioning of the committee:

The organization will hold a united struggle against the usage of narcotic drugs by identifying narcotic drug centres and educating them not to indulge in these kind of activities. Youth who consume narcotics will be identified and encouraged not to consume drugs by explaining its ill effects. Counselling will also be offered. When the parent is unable to prevent their child from getting involved in such acts the committee will inform the parent of the drug victim about their child's drug consumption and ask them to convince the child not to involve in such acts. Finally, if the youth cannot be convinced, the lender continues to sell and the parent refuses the guidance of the committee then proper action will be taken through the police department.

The committee will also support the police department. The committee functions independently.

Kudroli also said that the organization will be exptended to other parts of the city in the coming days.

On the occasion Saeed Ismail, Sharfudin vice president of 'Keduku Muktha Horata Samithi' and others were present.
