Bengaluru, Apr 15: Karnataka has sought 15 days more time to give its comments on the KKasturirangan report on conservation of Western Ghats to the Centre.

Forest and Environment Minister B Ramanath Rai and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra held a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday and decided to submit the State’s comments on the report to the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) before April 30.

Earlier, the Centre has asked the State to give its comments on the report before April 15.

The State Cabinet meeting at its meeting on April 17 would take a final decision on the submission of the Government’s report and content of the report.

The two Ministers briefed the Chief Minister about the work done by the Cabinet sub-committee on the Kasturirangan report.

The KasturiranganCommittee members visited a few Western Ghat districts and reviewed the implications of the report.

The MoEF wrote to the six States of the Western Ghats region seeking comments on the Kasturirangan.

So far, Kerala is the only State to have submitted filed its objections to the centre.
