Moodbidri, Apr 16: The policemen of the town station here have arrested a person, who has been accused by a girl of raping her repeatedly over a period of time by promising to marry her. On the basis of the complaint filed by the girl, who says the man has since dumped her, the policemen have booked him for rape.

The accused is Anil (25) from Alangar in Marpady village near here. He works as construction supervisor. The complainant is a 25-year-old lady from Rayi village, who happens to be a distant relative of the accused.

The lady claimed that Anil had made her to stay with him at his home from Jauary 1 to March 15 this year, and that he raped her a number of times during this stay. She said thereafter he refused to meet his promise of marriage, and threatened to drive her away from his house.

On being produced in the court here on Wednesday, the court remanded the accused to judicial custody for 15 days.
