Jacintha Alfred, Ivan D'Souza felicitated at Jeppu

Mangaluru, Apr 16: After winning accolades from all over,the newly elected Mayor of Mangaluru, Jacintha Vijaya Alfred was felicitated recently with great pride in her own hometown Jeppu with a grand band procession starting from St Joseph statue to the St Joseph Natak Sangh.

Ivan Dsouza, MLC Karnataka State Government was also felicitated during this occasion. Spiritual Director of White Flower Social Service Movement and Director of St Joseph Natak Sangh Fr Lawrence D’souza, Fr Prakash D’souza, Principal St Joseph College, Jeppu, Sr Sylvia, Superior Sisters of Charity, Konkan Myna Meena Rebimbus, Konkani Litterateur Eddie Netto, Philomena D’silva and Lavina Dias vice president and secretary of Jeppu parish were present among other prominent personalities.


White flower social service movement in association with Jeppu parishioners, parish associations and United Youngsters honoured Jacintha Alfred on being elected as the Mayor of Mangaluru. Receiving the honour, Jacintha Alfred said that she was grateful for the love bestowed on her by all her parishioners and association members and will always cherish this day in her life. She also added that she would work towards development of her ward and will always as before be available for her people and work towards bringing development as the Mayor of Mangaluru. She promised to give her continued support to her parish and parishioners.

A special cultural programme was organized by Jacintha’s parishioners. The evening started with a prayer dance by Vijeetha Vijay Alfred and Deepa Penha. A welcome message was given by the spiritual director of White Flower Social Service Movement Fr Lawrence D’souza. A song felicitating Jacintha was sung by Jeppu choir. A duet song, Indianth Naval Gadlam from the composition of Konkan Kogull Late Wilfy Rebimbus which talks about the greatness of woman in the field of Politics was sung by Audette Moreira and Prerana Frontiero. There were various dances by the talented young children of Jeppu. Eddie Netto in his words of encouragement congratulated Ivan and Jacintha for holding such high position in Mangaluru and told them they should march forward and soon hold positions in the Delhi parliament.

Ivan D’souza said he was deeply touched by the well planned surprise honouring for him by White flower social service Movement and Jeppu parishioners. He thanked everyone for their support and trust in him and promised to be available and solve any problems faced by the public. He asked the people to approach him for any of their needs and he would extend his full support to them. In his speech, he also congratulated Jacintha on being elected the Mayor of Mangaluru and promised to give her full support in all her work and also urged her to work towards betterment in her own ward.

United Youngsters Jeppu, headed by Meena Rebimbus sang a felicitation song ‘Ullas Ullas Mogal Jacintha’ in honour of the newly elected Mayor and honored her with a memento and a bouquet of flowers.

Felicitation ceremony was carried out by St Joseph Natak Sangh, StVincent De Paul Society, Choir members, Charismatic group, ICYM group, YCS group, Altar boys group, Catholic sabha, St Joseph maran fund, Jeppu parish association, St Joseph band, Fathima shalom Ward, Br Nalatho Ward, Fr Bellery Ward, St Antony Ward, Br Diamanthi Ward –I, Br Diamanthi Ward –II, Br Foglieni Ward –I and Br Foglieni Ward –II

Gretta Carvalho proposed vote of thanks. Pamela Santos did a splendid job as the master of ceremony for the evening. Refreshments were served to all by White flower social service movement.
