Kundapur, Apr 17: Superintendent of police of Udupi district, K Annamalai on Thursay April 16 visited the house of the late Indira Mogaveera who was allegedly raped and murdered at Gopady recently. Annamalai spoke to the family members of the deceased including her husband Anand. He also interacted with the locals in order to collect more information on the crime.
Speaking later Annamalai said he would help to get the maximum possible compensation of Rs 3 lac for the family of the deceased under victim compensation scheme, and that he would talk to the deputy commissioner on Friday April 17 regarding the same. He revealed that the committee which looks after the affairs of the scheme has deputy commissioner, superintendent of police and magistrate as members. He said honest efforts will be made to disburse the compensation within six months.
Annamalai regretted the fact that the house of the deceased, despite being inhabited by people for the past three generations did not have electricity supply to date. He promised that he will discuss the matter with the deputy commissioner and try to provide electricity connection to the house within a week
He also promised to look into the matter of poor people on the coast not getting the basic electricity supply and other amenities. He said that a report will be prepared within a month on this matter. He said he will also discuss the matter of street lights with deputy commissioner.
Annamalai also responded to the news of mega protest held on Thursday by women and said that the department too has some doubts regarding the presence of other people in the crime. He said the process of the interrogations of some persons is in progress and cases will be lodged against them in appropriate time. Kundapur circle inspector P M Deevakar, sub inspector Nasir Hussein, women federation leader Radhadas, Zilla panchayat member Hanapathy T Sriyan, Ashok Thekkatte the president of Mogaveera youth association Koteshwar and Ganesh Puthran the social activist were present among others during this visit.
Annamalai along with the circle inspector and sub inspector also visited the lodge in Gangolli where an old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances. A youth named Azhar Afzal Khan of Mumbai origin who had rented the room in the lodge had disappeared from the lodge soon after the death of the old woman. He made necessary enquiries from the hotel staff and owner regarding the photos left by Azhar and about the movements and behaviour of Azhar during the past week at the lodge.
