Beltangady: Man from Padubidri drowns at Ermayi waterfall

Beltangady, Apr 20: A person from Padubidri in Udupi district drowned at Ermayi falls near here on Sunday April 19. The deceased has been identified as Dhanush Acharya (23).

Acharya was employed in a granite factory functioning in Bantakal. On Sunday, he had come to the house of a relative in Mangaluru, it is learnt. He then accompanied four others including Shashank and Shiva who had planned to visit the Ermayi falls located near Kajoor in the taluk, after visiting Guruvayankere and Dharmasthala.

When taking bath in the standing water near the falls, Acharya, who did not know how to swim, drowned. It is learnt that those on the spot did not jump into the water to rescue Acharya, as the spot is known to pose danger. Fire brigade personnel and expert divers later got into the act and after some efforts, retrieved Acharya's body.

A report about the incident stands reported in the police station here. Acharya is survived by mother and two brothers. His father had passed away last year due to heart attack, it is learnt.
