Mudslide at Padil-Bajal under-bridge affects train movements

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 23: Even as work on the Padil-Bajal under-bridge construction is in progress, mudslide occurred under the third and fourth railway tracks, affecting movement of trains.

These particular tracks are used by trains moving towards Hassan. Because of the above problem, now these trains have to stop at Mangaluru Junction station, change tracks, move for some distance on first and second track (Udupi-Thokur section) and then change tracks again to move towards Hassan.

The mudslide occurred at around 4 pm on Wednesday. It is learnt that when concrete slabs were being pushed below the tracks, mounds of mud fell from above. Overnight rains on Tuesday are being blamed for this situation.
