Mangaluru, Apr 27: National Safe Motherhood day is observed every year on April 11 to develop awareness among women in promoting safe motherhood. The department of obstetrics and gynaecology in Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing celebrated this day on April 25, from 10.30 am onwards in Bondanthila, Mangaluru.

Nagendra Rao, programme coordinator, Darmajyothi Social Welfare Centre, Vamanjoor, was the chief guest for the function. Dr Veena Bhagvan, asst prof AJIMS, Mangaluru was the guest of honour as well as the resource person. Dr Theresa Leonilda Mendonsa, vice principal, LMCN, presided over the function. Leena D’souza asst prof of obstetrics and gynecology nursing department welcomed the gathering.

Health awareness talks on PowerPoint presentation were delivered by Dr Veena Bhagvan. She stressed on the importance of preconception care and highlighted the factors important for promoting health among females. These should be started as early as possible and should continue throughout life. Role play on preconception care was enacted by 3rd year GNM students.

Lovlyn, asst lecturer, proposed the vote of thanks. Around 40 mothers were present. Teena compered the entire programme which came to a close by 12.30 pm.
