Vijayapura: Fight over tap water queue ends in murder

Vijayapura, May 4: A fight over sequence of a queue for collecting water from public tap resulted in the murder of a woman on Sunday May 3. The incident occurred at Shegunasi village in the taluk.

Kasturibai Srishaila Melinakeri (30) from the area in the village set aside for dalits, was killed in this incident. Maharaj M Melinekeri from the same street happens to be the main accused. He has been arrested by the police.

At dusk on Saturday, the people of this locality had formed a long queue in front of a public tap. A dispute arose during this period between the families of Kasturibai and Maharaj, which threatened to go out of hand, after which local dignitaries intervened and struck truce between them.

But heated arguments again arose between these two families on Sunday morning. Maharaj Melinakeri, in a fit of rage, rushed to the spot with an axe, and swung it at the left side of Kasturibai's neck, causing her instant death, it is gathered.
