Udupi, Mar 24: The president of Shivaram Karanth Pratishtana, Moodbidri, K Amarnath Shetty presented the Shivaram Karanth Prashasti to writer A R Mitra at "Sahitya Samskriti Sambhrama" here on Friday.
The programme was organised by the MGM College, Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Research Centre, Udupi chapter of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and Samuha Kalavidaru.
Mitra said that the late Kota Shivaram Karanth was a living encyclopedia. He had knowledge about all fields. Yet, Karanth was humble and down to earth. Even a brief interaction with him left an indelible mark on one's mind, Mitra said.
Mitra, who also delivered the Govinda Pai Memorial Lecture, said that the late Govinda Pai was a great scholar and poet. He knew 24 languages. For all his intelligence, Govinda Pai was a simple person. Both Karanth and Govinda Pai had rendered invaluable contribution to the field of literature, he said.
Editor of Tulu Lexicon U P Upadhyaya welcomed the gathering. Registrar of the Academy of General Education K.K. Pai presided over the function.
