Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Mar 26: A sessions court in Uttar Pardesh has sentenced to death Monu Mittal, the prime accused in the murder of IOC whistleblower S Manjunath. Seven others, who were convicted along with Mittal in the case on Friday, were sentenced to undergo life imprisonment.
A UP sessions court on Friday convicted all the eight accused in the murder of Manjunath.
The 27-year-old IIM graduate was working as a sales officer with the Indian Oil Corporation when he was shot dead on November 19, 2005 for blowing the whistle on the petrol pump adulteration racket run by Monu Mittal and his aide Devesh Agnihotri in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh.
Manjunath's bullet ridden body was recovered five days later.
The Lakhimpur Kheri court found Monu, Devesh and six others guilty of murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.
The eight accused have also been found guilty of criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.
