Udupi, Mar 27: Three-day state-level ‘Workshop on Disaster Preparedness and Management’ was inaugurated on Sunday March 25 under the auspices of Canara College of Nursing and Nightingale School of Nursing at Koteshwar here.
Medical education minister V S Acharya inaugurated the function. Speaking on the occasion he said that one must exploit the advantage of modern communication systems to manage disaster. He also said that effects of tsunami would have been reduced, if the communication system had been proper.
Disasters affect our economy and the productivity of our country. Hence, effective co-ordination is necessary during such disasters. The nursing fraternity should be given special training in life support activities. Courses in life support systems should be introduced in the syllabus as a part of the paramedical course, the minister said.
