Melbourne, Mar 28: The owner of a takeaway Indian curry joint in Melbourne thwarted an attempted armed robbery by throwing a statue of Lord Ganesha at his attacker Monday.
A man, dressed in motorbike leathers and helmet, entered the Curry Grove in Sommerville Road, Hampton Park, at 7.30 pm and allegedly threatened the owner with a knife.
"The robber then made a demand for cash but the owner, in his mid-40s and the only person in the shop at the time, threw the statue at him," said Gavin Buchan, a Cranbourne police official.
Police believe the assailant fled empty-handed on a motorbike parked outside, according to The Age newspaper.
