Mangalore, Mar 28: Dakshina Kannada district will get 11 small vented dams during the financial year 2007-08.
District in-charge Minister B Nagaraj Shetty told presspersons at Miyakatte in Mangalore taluk on Tuesday that the dams to be built at a cost of about Rs 4.6 crore would be completed before March 2008.
The largest dam among them would come up across the Nethravathi river at Nidgalgrama in Beltangady taluk at a cost of about Rs 71.10 lac, he added. The dams at Pilangaru in Kadabettu village of Bantwal taluk, Bimbila Nadodi in Palthady village of Puttur taluk, Bollikallu in Kanakamajalu village of Sullia taluk, Miyakatte in Nadugodu village of Mangalore taluk, Kattathilla in Salethur village of Bantwal taluk and Amkudige in Kadeshivalaya village were being constructed, he said.
Shetty said that projects to construct dams at Parakatta village at Kateel in Mangalore, Nandini village in Mangalore taluk, Puchchadikatta at Delanthabettu village and Sankadakariya at Ulipady village were in the planning stage.
The water holding capacity would improve after the dams come up. This would also help to develop new water shed areas in the district, he added.
