Bantwal, May 13: Assistant commissioner of the taluk, Dr Ashok, led a team of revenue officials to Ajilamogaru within Sarapady gram panchayat in the taluk on the night of Monday May 11. The team found that illegal mining was going on at the spot. The officials confiscated a dredging machine that was in operation at the mine.

Since long, illegal sand mining has been going on in Ajilamogaru. Although officials had planned several raids, the people concerned got advance information reportedly from the officials of the department, and vacated the spot in time. So, no vehicles or machines could be seized.

On Monday night too, as the concerned had got wind of the forthcoming raid, drivers and trucks had disappeared from the spot, it is gathered.
