Mangaluru, May 13: The Democratic Front of India (DYFI) staged a protest on wednesday March 21 in front of the DC's office to drop the project of construction golf course and luxury resorts near Bengare beach area.

Muneer Katipalla, DYFI state president addressing the protestors said, "The Opus Laguna Golf and Resorts Pvt Ltd has violated the rules and has affected the livelihood of almost 15000 people. Out of 2000 houses at Bengare, most of the people are fishermen. The state government In the name of PPP model has given the land for free and 135 acre has been acquired and almost 10-15 feet wall has been constructed. The people will get affected in the future. The people have been living in the area for 100 years but many live without basic amenities In most of the cases, house numbers and documents are not provided, Many houses are still not provided with electricity and water."

"The big lobby is playing the vital role behind this project, we request the state government through this protest not to cut off the bond of people with the sea. The golf course is constructed for luxury and enjoyment purpose only. The golf course is only for name sake but the lobby is aiming to build 150 resorts near the beach area for rich people. The beach area is given to rich company for private gains at the cost of livelihood of normal fishermen which is not accecptable. We strongly protest this." he asserted.

CITU district general secretary Vasanth Achari, DYFI city unit president B K Imtiyaz and others were present at the protest.
