Kundapur, Mar 31: At last the time is fast approaching in realizing a long-cherished dream of people of taluk.  The much-awaited upgradation work of Byndoor railway station commenced finally on Thursday March 27.

As reported in these columns several times, the Byndoor Railway Horata Samiti along with support from local MLA Gopal Poojary and residents has been leading movement pressing the administration and railway department to upgrade Byndoor railway station. It has been years since the movement was first launched.  But all involved in this process have been striving relentlessly to realize this dream.

They attained partial success when the railway ministry approved the stopping to express trains at Byndoor.  But that once again met an abrupt end when the promise was not fulfilled.  Railway department delayed this with numerous reasons.  Finally, MLA Gopal Poojary and leaders of Byndoor Railway Horata Samiti met union minister Oscar Fernandes and submitted a separate memorandum to him while he was on visit to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts in the beginning of this week.

Now that almost all obstacles have been cleared, the upgradation work has started.  The department is undertaking extension of platform and other basic works.  Once this work is over, 2 major express trains will be given a stop at Byndoor for the next three months.  Arrangements are also made for the passengers who alight in the nights.
