Fishing with mechanized boats banned in coast from June 1 to July 31

Mangaluru, May 15: The fisheries department, through an order, has banned fishing with mechanized boats in the state's coast for 61 days from June 31 to July 31.

This ban applies to mechanized boats, and also traditional boats mounted with over 10 horse power inboard or outboard engine using nets or other equipment.

At the same time, the union department of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries has uniformly imposed fishing ban in water bodies located in special economic zones of states located on the west coast between June 1 and July 31 This ban extends from 12 to 200 nautical miles from the coast.

The boats and fishermen violating this ban order will face punishment under Karnataka Marine Fishing Act. In addition, the concerned would be ineligible to get subsidy on diesel for a year, a release by the deputy director of fisheries warned.
