Mangalore, Apr 5: City youth, Sandeep Malani’s directorial debut SMS 6260 will hit silver screens in Mangalore on Friday, April 6.

It's indeed a welcome move that talented newcomers and established stars are trying their hands in film direction with tremendous success rate and more and more people with new ideas are venturing into Kannada film direction.

Mangalorean Sandeep’s SMS 6260 is that impressive film which has variety in ‘word and spirit’

In an exclusive to Daijiworld Malani revealed the backstage experiences of his first independent directional venture.

“It’s a film which in entirely shot in Mangalore and my best efforts are in brining several languages and bring entertainment under one umbrella. A fun story over SMS messages the film is for all age groups from 6 to 60 and so the name has been SMS 6260. Although one can hear Kannada, Konkani, Tulu, Hindi, Malayalam, Telegu and Tamil in the film, the subtitles in English tie the movie viewer to the film.”

In 32 days, Sandeep scaled the entire Mangalore with his band of young and first time actors of the region.
Prime locations including Milagres church Pegasus Hotel, Zero Degree, Pilikula Nisargadhama have all been covered and event shooting done during Kudlotsav.


SMS 6260 is a fun story, where the main characters interact over SMS messages. It's a story of 6 good friends who gets into their two ways of life. While it focuses on their campus life with fun and frolic, it moves on to their professional life taking serious turns. It's going to be all about the new age craze leading to tones of fun

Sandeep comes from a movie buffs family where his father was a manager of a theatre and this was an easy access to films each week.

Hailing from Attavar, Sandeep was a dancer in the famous Mandd Sobhann troupe of Eric Ozario. "I used to act and perform in stage shows and also organize events in Mangalore Town Hall, says Sandeep. While acting was his passion, writing was his profession. He started writing for leading English daily. He worked with several directors as an associate major of them being ‘123’, ‘Manasalla Neene’ and the latest being Miss California.

Sandeep's directorial debut SMS 6260 is for an NRI production banner. Impressed with his work, Arasu family from the United States of America came forward to produce this film. Prahalad Arasu and Janu Arasu are venturing into film production under the banner Shirdi Enterprises Inc. (California, USA).

Janu Arasu has played the female lead role in Miss California. Michael Dayao, a Hawaiian has composed three English number and new comers Lokesh and Prakash will score for Kannada songs.

A 'Kanglish' movie, as Sandeep has christened it, the film has already completed 50 days in Bangalore.

“This film has been made for an International platform. Further on the occasion of Suvarna Karnataka a special song number has been included in it, which I have dedicated to the late Kannada Matinee Hero Rajkumar and the Karnataka Rajyotsava Day, said Sundeep.

A film of newcomers, Sandeep's film has new actors and also new technicians. Besides Diganth and Janu who have been paired in Miss California, rest are all new faces. Smrti, a young girl from San Francisco plays the other leading role and Karan Gowda, Loy Patrao, Ganesa Murthy, Ashav, Nihar, Badri etc are among the cast.

Veteran actors Dattanna and Jayalakshmi have also played prominent roles.

Disclosing his plans for his next venture, Sandeep said that ‘Mangalore’ his next film would be a triangular love story including prime characters of different religions.

“A unique experience which has turned out to be successful is the use of lots of old and new Konkani, Tulu, Hindi songs as background score. Even the coastal Baila has been included into it. On several occasions, I have made maximum effort to ensure that the coastal culture and traditions are seen in the film. Konkan Kogull Wilfy Rebimbus’ songs have also been used extensively, Sandeep elaborated.

Not only has this youth tried his hands on the concept and direction, but also on story and chorography. Sandeep who has acted in several movies including the Konkani classic ‘Bogsane’ and Tulu films ‘September 8’ and ‘Bangar Patler’ has high hopes for a hit film based on the response received so far. The low budget film is sure to capture a global audience with its novel concept and youthful blend.
