'Piku' crosses Rs. 100 crore mark worldwide


Mumbai, May 25 (IANS): Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar's slice-of-life family entertainer "Piku", a beautiful tale of a father and a daughter's relationship, has collected Rs.100 crore worldwide.

Featuring megastar Amitabh Bachchan along with Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan, "Piku", which released on May 8, is continuing its successful run at the box office even after two weeks.

"#Piku Overseas total: $5.36 million [Rs.34.09 cr]. Worldwide total [India Overseas] crossed Rs.100 cr. FANTASTIC!, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Monday.

Overwhelmed by the response to "Piku", Big B also took to Twitter to share his excitement.

"'PIKU' is 100 cr world wide! 'BLUES' win BPL and IPL... I am like 'o baby! come to Mama! BADOOOMBA," the 72-year-old tweeted.

The story of the film revolves around a father-daughter relationship via a journey from Delhi to Kolkata in a car through the scenic and holy city of Varanasi. Not only has its story clicked with the audience, but also the chemistry between Deepika and Irrfan, as well as Deepika and Big B's arguments, which are filled with love and care.
