Udupi, Apr 17: The district-level Suvarna Arogya and Aahara Mela will be held at Board High School here from Wednesday April 17 to Friday April 20.
Addressing a press meet here on Monday April 16, MLA K Raghupati Bhat informed that the event has been jointly organised by National Rural Health Campaign, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) and the district administration.
The Arogya Mela will be inaugurated by health minister R Ashok while the Aahara Mela will be inaugurated by Hemavati Heggade of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala. The inaugural ceremony will be presided over by medical education minister V S Acharya.
Health check-ups will be held on the occasion with facilities like free ECG, ultrasound, X-ray and blood tests. Specialists in various medical fields will conduct the check-ups. Medicines worth Rs 2 lac will be distributed to patients, he said.
The Aahara Mela will comprise of as many as 36 food stalls. Free meals will be provided to about 5,000 people every day during the course of the event.
Among those present at the press meet were district health and family welfare officer M R Naik, SKDRDP director Sitaram Shetty, Vidyaniketan Group of Educational Institutions correspondent K P Acharya and city municipal council former Chittaranjan Das Hegde.
