St Aloysius University delegation explores innovation at HKUST, Cyberport in Hong Kong

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 13: The international relations cell of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, organised a six-day international immersion programme to Hong Kong, providing students with valuable international exposure to higher education, scientific research, technological advancements, and innovation ecosystems.

As part of the programme, a delegation of 22 students visited the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Cyberport, Hong Kong’s leading digital technology hub and AI accelerator, on September 28.

During the visit to HKUST, Prof Natalie and Prof Precilla from the global engagement cell welcomed the delegation and introduced the university’s history, major research areas, academic programmes, and opportunities for higher education. HKUST Student Ambassadors subsequently conducted a comprehensive campus tour and delivered presentations on various aspects of university life, academic pursuits, and research initiatives. The interaction offered students valuable insights into the international higher education system and the academic opportunities available in Hong Kong.

The delegation also visited Cyberport, where Jackie, senior manager, provided an overview of the organisation and its role in strengthening Hong Kong’s innovation and technology ecosystem. Sinn and Yann from the external relations team introduced the students to several initiatives and projects involving artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, drone technology, and government-supported innovation. The visit helped students understand the practical applications of emerging technologies and the role of innovation hubs in fostering entrepreneurship, research, and technology-driven development.

The delegation was accompanied by Santhosh Notagar, co-chair of international relations; Dr Ruban Raj, dean of the School of Engineering; and Preema Tauro, IQAC deputy director/coordinator.

The visits to HKUST and Cyberport formed an important part of the international immersion experience, bridging classroom learning with real-world exposure to global academic institutions and advanced technology ecosystems. The programme aimed to broaden students’ perspectives, encourage cross-cultural learning, and familiarise them with international opportunities in higher education, research, and emerging technologies.
