Puttur, Jun 5: On June 5 last year, Pushpalatha (35), residing in a rented house belonging to Uppinangady church with husband, Gurumurthy and childlren, was killed by unknown assailants for purpose which has remained a mystery till now. What is worse, the murderer has remained at large till now.

Gurumurthy was the headmaster of government high school at Hirebandady village in the taluk. Pushpalatha was mother of two. She was killed when washing clothes at home.

Her husband and children came home in the evening. As the front door was locked, they broke it open and found that Pushpalatha was lying in a pool of blood inside the kitchen. As none of the valuables had gone missing from the house, it was treated as a case of mysterious murder.

The police officers who visited the spot the same day had expressed confidence of arresting the culprits soon. Women's organizations have held protests demanding arrest of the murderer soon. Uppinangady police station has seen transfer of two sub-inspectors since, and even the circle inspector, who was the investigating officer, has been shifted.

The current circle inspector, Anil Kulkarni, who opines that the police personnel could not pay enough attention towards investigating this case because of different developments, has expressed confidence of taking this case as a challenge and nabbing the culprit.
