I am opposed to 'one-man shows' in political parties: Advani

New Delhi, Jun 20 (PTI): Veteran BJP leader L K Advani, who created a flutter yesterday with his apprehensions of Emergency again in India, today clarified that it was not aimed at any individual but said he was against "one-man shows" in political parties and asked leaders to be modest like Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Clarifying his controversial remarks on Emergency, Advani said, "I did not mean any individual when I made that statement. I am opposed to all kinds of dictatorships."

"Arrogance breeds authoritarianism. It is very sad. Today's leaders should be modest like Vajpayee," Advani told Aaj Tak, according to a statement by the channel.

Asked if he feels that a dictatorial trend in political leadership has emerged, Advani said, "I have always been against this one man shows in political parties."

He said, "Vajpayee was a tall leader with successful record but I never heard someone at that time saying Vajpayee is India and India is Vajpayee."

In another interview to India Today, Advani also said, "anyone who comes to power doesn't want to lose it" and warned that the voter will teach a lesson to anyone who "abuses power".

He also said that the best safeguard against mischief is the voter.
"Right," he said when asked whether the Indian voter will teach a lesson to any politician who may have delusions of power or a desire to abuse his power.

The BJP patriarch said Emergency cannot be imposed in India for a second time easily but added a word of caution that "those who have power or those who are likely to be in power, their susceptibility would always be greater".

"Anyone who comes to power doesn't want to lose it, just as anyone who gets money does not want to lose it," he said.

Referring to his remarks to the Indian Express where he said that, "at present, the forces that can crush democracy are stronger" was made against the backdrop of the present context, the BJP patriarch sought to dismiss any speculation.

"I do not know whether I used stronger. I simply said strong....what surprises me and what distresses me is that those who have imposed such a drastic Emergency in the country do not have any sense of guilt for that. It is this that distresses me," he said.

Don't know what Advani was hinting..

But Yes.. Now BJP is one man show by Modi, AAP is one man show by Kejri, Congress is one woman controlled by Sonia and Gandhi family since Independence......

So somehow all Indian parties are working in same style...

is it Good..!!! Hmmm no one really knows.... no one really cares until things are really going good

All the BJPians have immediately, simply accused LKA for his open talk on the way present Government is run - by one person. This kind of autocratic rule will lead to dissent in in the party, slowly and surely and will be detrimental to the progress of India as the party members will be busy trying to pull each others legs and the governance surely will be affected for e.g. Karnataka under BJP rule (Both first time rule by BJP!!!)
These BJPians are power crazy and do anything to enable them to get more power to fill their pockets, which right now is arrested by Modi by his one man rule but it will not last long. It is going to fall apart soon.

Congress is like "Charma Toledaru Karma Hogalla". This Congress party is owned and ruled by Scamster Ghandhi family and anti-Hindu and minority appeasement party.
By hook or crook, Congress want to stall the development of this country.
They know very well, If PM Modi succeeds in his plans they will not come back in coming fifteen to twenty years.

What Sushmaji and Raje have done is no crime by any means. Sushmaji helped Lalit Modi on humanitarian grounds like she helped hundreds of other Indians like in Yemen evacuation ,Iraq ISIS crisis. Lalit Modi is their family friend for decades, Lalit Modi was not a criminal, was a Former IPL chairman , who was sacked for financial misuse in IPL 2009. Congress looted enough wealth from him and now making all drama just to defame BJP.
It seems Congress now joined with L.K. Advani to use him against PM Modi.

Advani for sure wrongly projected as iron man by BJP. He crumbles under everything. His heart and mind works in 2 different directions. This is the same case. Within BJP probably, he has more enemies than outside. That is the kind of gratitude BJP ranks have for its own founders.

Yes, as Vellano mentioned, Modi watches his back from friends more closely than enemies. He did the same in Gujarat. Most of them are either politically insignificant or immersed in ganges. He knows how to silence them and Advani, learnt it in a hard way.

Indians having enjoyed 60 years of freedom, the new generation love dictatorship. A dictator who solves every problem in a jiffy. What they don't know is absolute power corrupt, always created demons and eventually, the very people who supported it is the first to get targetted. Advani is right, but who listens to him these days?

Those who are talking about democracy should know what is actually happening in states like Uttar pradesh where rule of jungle prevails. At the same a strong leadership at the centre was needed for India to safeguard its sovereignty. imagine during the Congress rule even small states like Bangla and pakistan could murder our soldiers and get away. Now we need a strong leader to lead us. For those forces which cannot stand Modi giving a fitting reply to our enemies are crying foul.

people of india voted for NARENDRA MODI with a massive mandate on may 2014 only to put up a one man show to clean the massive corruption, nepotism and chaos created by all the parties and its selfish leaders who have put thier own selfish interests beforenations interests and that includes this old man also.

the mandate given by people of india in loksabha election is for narendra modi and not for bjp to put up a one man show to save the nation from the evils from destroying the nation.

mr advani should contemplate that these type of statements will not damage modis reputation in the masses but it will increase manifold and confirm that he is well on his job as they elected him for this purpose only to put up a one man show in saving the nation.

mr advanis reputation has been damaged by his own statements among the masses.hope your situation will not become another seetaram kesari of congress.

Mr. Modi's ion as head of the BJP to lead the party in October of 2013, his election campaign style, ion of cabinet and allocation of portfolios, foreign visits, etc have been more like that of a US president. Indians are not used to this type of functioning by a prime minister as we are parliamentary democracy, not a presidential democracy.

During emergency rule in India, Mrs. Gandhi ran her government like a skilled dictator, whoever opposed her were thrown out of the Congress party, and were politically punished. Congress party has no reason to complain about Mr. Modi now, as Congress party wanted to install Mrs. Indira Gandhi as permanent president of India once she wins the 1977 national elections. But in 1977 she lost landslide and Congress party had to stop their ambitions for Indira.

Notable factor is that majority of current political advisers and political consultants of Mr. Modi are Indian NRI/NRE's who live in USA, that is why his functioning is more like that of a president, not like a prime minister!!!

No doubt, Mr. Modi is focused in his tasks and committed to India's progress. I believe that within next few years oblivious positive results will emerge. Therefore I do not see any damage to the BJP or to India, it is not a one man show at the center, but a little different ruling phenomena...
