Chikamagalur, May 2: The proposed puja by the priests at Baba Budangiri or Datta Peetha here which was supposed to be held on Tuesday May 1 ended without any problem as the district administration made it sure that no one performed rituals on Datta Peetha.
Purushottam Das Maharaj from Mathura and a few leaders of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Sanatana Samsthe who had come to the place visited the peetha and took darshan of Datta padukas (footwear of Datta).
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had earlier claimed that High Court had instructed the commissioner of Endowment Department to allow Hindus to perform the religious rituals at Datta Peetha in its ruling on February 14.
Religious leaders from across the state arrived at the venue at 12.30 pm to perform the Puja.
Though devotees and religious leaders arrived at the venue around 12.30 pm on Tuesday, police officers stopped the leaders on their way and told them clearly that they had no clear order from the court. Hence only the darshan of Datta padukas was allowed.
Though situation could have turned worse, the devotees followed the district administration’s and helped the administration to maintain peace.
