Beltangady, May 3: Two Muslim young men from Mundaje who were facing charges of cattle theft have been boycotted by local Jamat.  Jamat has said that these youth had tried to disturb peace during Eid.  The locals have appreciated the initiatives of Jamat in maintaining communal harmony and peace.

Some miscreants had stolen a cow belonging to a local woman just on the view of Eid.  The woman in turn urged Hindu organizations seeking justice claiming that the cow was her only way of earning livelihood.  Unlike many other cases, here the Hindu leaders along with BJP leaders decided to lodge a complaint with the local masjid so that the case could be solved amicably.  When they lodged the complaint, the Muslim leader promised them to resolve the issue amicably.

During the enquiry it was found out that two locals Latif and Yakoob had stolen the cow.  But they had not slaughtered it as it was not their intention.  Jamat then ordered that the woman should be paid Rs 10,000 which is inclusive of value of the cow and also compensation.  But the woman demanded Rs 15,000 which came as a major problem in resolving the issue.

However, leaders of Jamat as well as Hindu organizations had asked the woman to take her decision within a day since there were chances of youth going missing.   Meanwhile the youth fled the place and are still at large. Having no other way, Jamat decided to boycott them and their families from all programmes.  The local Muslim leaders have decided not attend any programmes organized by their families.  This boycott will be in effect till the issue is resolved.

Most of the locals are of the opinion that this would do a world of good in resolving many more such cases in the long run.
