China's first MERS patient discharged from hospital


Beijing, June 26 (IANS): China's first confirmed Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) patient was discharged from hospital and returned home to South Korea on Friday.

The 44-year-old South Korean man had no fever for over 10 days and twice tested negative for the virus, Xinhua reported.

He visited a MERS patient at a South Korean hospital and showed symptoms since May 21.

Despite a doctor recommending that he cancel his travel plans, he flew to Hong Kong on May 26.

The man tested positive for MERS in Guangdong province on May 29.

South Korea has recorded 181 cases since the outbreak of the disease on May 21. The toll stands at 31.
