Mangalore, May 7: The Corporation Bank Officers’ Organization (CBOO) has condemned the arrest of Laxman Shetty, the president of Nandikur Janajagruthi Samithi by Padubidri police recently for allegedly assaulting staff of Nagarjuna.
CBOO has opposed the government’s idea of setting up of coal-based Nagarjuna Power Project at Nandikur near Padubidri here. “Dropping the idea of setting up of this project would be right on the part of the government as locals too are against this project,” stated the press release by CBOO
T R Bhat, the CBOO president further said that the arrest of Shetty without bail was condemnable in a civil society. Samithi and various citizens’ groups have involved in a sustained campaign against the power project near Padubidri.
Commenting on the state Government’s stand, he said an elected government must appropriately respond to the public opinion.
Release further stated that attempts to curb people’s movement would only aggravate the problem and make the antagonists stronger and firm in their fight.
Therefore the government should drop the idea of installing power project and move it to other place if it feels the project is really necessary, he added.
