Special rooms at TN bus stations for lactating mothers


Chennai, July 3 (IANS): In a novel initiative for the benefit of lactating mothers, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa on Friday announced that exclusive rooms will be provided at bus terminals across the state for them to breastfeed their babies.

In a statement issued here Jayalalithaa said the new initiative will be launched on August 1, to commemorate the 'World Breast Feeding Week'.

She said lactating mothers who travel spend considerable amount of time in the bus stations and provision of exclusive rooms for them would enable them to feed their babies in privacy and at peace.

Jayalalithaa said this year's theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2015 is `Breastfeeding and Work - Let's Make it Work', aiming to encourage working women to nurse their babies.
