Telangana CM's Rs 5-crore bullet-proof bus has opposition fuming

New Delhi, Jul 3 (Agencies): Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's Rs 5-crore bulletproof 'vanity' bus drew sharp criticism from the Opposition on Friday, who termed it as a waste of money.

"KCR is spending lot of money on a bulletproof bus to tour the state...before election also he had toured the state. Why does he need a bus, that too worth five crores? The money should have been used to help the poor in the state," said senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao.

The bus is fitted with stateoftheart technology and can withstand any type of attack.

According to a Times Now report, it has an inbuilt bedroom, restroom, a small meeting hall, internet and stairs to the rooftop of the vehicle.

Rao has been primarily using a helicopter for his tours in the state be it for site inspections, launch of programmes or laying of foundation stones.

"The idea is to have all the facilities so the chief minister can use the bus as an office on the move," an official said. The vehicle will have a functional but comfortable bedroom and its floor reinforced so as to make it blastproof.

Initially, the bus is expected to be used extensively for KCR's Harita Haram programme tours. Sources in the government said the road trips will enable the chief minister to also see how the drinking water grid and Mission Kakatiya programmes are being implemented. He is expected to spend at least 10 days a month in the bus.
