Puttur, Jul 27: In a stray incident, a woman died after a huge jackfruit fell on her from a considerable height on Sunday July 26. The incident occurred at Naganakody in Hirebandady village near Uppinangady in the taluk.
The deceased happened to be Taniyaru (70), wife of the late Nadelu.
Taniyaru, as was her routine since the last some years, was sweeping the courtyard of a neighbour, when a jackfruit directly fell on her neck from a nearby tree. She died on the spot as a result.
Taniyaru has left behind six daughters and three sons. It is said that the owners had made arrangements for plucking all the jackfruits from the said tree in view of danger they posed, but a couple of them hanging atop the tree could not be removed as they were inaccessible because of the height at which they were located.
