Mangaluru: One arrested - two black buck pelts recovered

Mangaluru, Jul 31: On Thursday July 30, personnel of the special police forest squad arrested a person from near KSRTC bus stand at Bijai here. Reportedly, Shivappa Shigatti (27), who was arrested, was looking for customers for two black buck pelts he was illegally in possession of.




Shivappa has since been handed over to Barke police. The value of the pelts has not yet been assessed.

Police sub-inspector of the squad, Shekhar, went to KSRTC bus stand with some of his staff, after getting information that someone was trying to sell black buck pelts there. The police found that two persons were trying to strike a deal for the pelts with customers. One of them, Shivappa Shigatti, could be arrested. His associate, whose name has been given as Molali Mabuli Badesab from Haveri, succeeded in running away and escape.

The police said they are continuing with efforts to nab the escapee. The arrested youth has been booked under provisions of Wildlife Protection Act. He was also produced in the court on Thursday.
