Sullia, Jul 31: Lalita (40), wife of the late Jayananda Gowda (53) from Kakyana Kalka in Kootkunja village in the taluk near Subrahmanya, her paramour, Dhananjay (31), who belongs to Karmbunekkila House in Panja, Dinesh Poojary (29) from Puttur Majaladka House, Chandrakant (25), resident of Panja Chottemajalu, and Chintan (25) belonging to Kelaginekeri House in Charvaka village, have been handed over to two days police custody by the court here, in connection with the murder of Jayananda Gowda.

The court upheld the application put up before it by investigating officer of the case and local circle police inspector, Satish Kumar.

It is said that Dhananjay, who is unmarried, had illicit relationship with Lalita since the last two years. As Dhananjay, who stays about four km away from Lalita's home, liked to enjoy life and had adopted stylish way of living, he had tried to attract Lalita towards him, and Lalita willingly obliged, it is gathered. After Jayananda Gowda, who was gentle and truthful, and who worked as a coolie, came to know about this relationship, he advised his wife to mend her ways and lead an honourable life. Thereafter, differences arose between the two.

Lalita and Jayananda decided to remove Jayananda, who was an obstacle in their relationship, from their path. They contracted the work of eliminating him to Chetan and his associates, at the pre-decided price of Rs 60,000. The first attempt on Jayananda's life, made on May 17, failed, but the gang succeeded in murdering him in their second effort.

Jayananda, who left home for visiting an astrologer, went suddenly missing, as per a complaint filed by Lalita on July 16. Police circle inspector, Satish Kumar, who took up investigation, got scent of the immoral relationship during his conversations with villagers. He also got to know that Chandrakant and Dhananjay had met and confided. When he caught hold of Chandrakant and interrogated him about the reason behind their meeting, the secret came out. Dhananjay was questioned thereafter, after which the police personnel got to know the entire story behind this missing case.

The daughter of Lalita and Jayananda, who is 12 and studies in seventh standard, happens to be the only child of the couple. She has been orphaned now.
