Mangaluru: Popular restaurateur Giri Manja no more

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Aug 13: Manjunath Pai, better known as 'Giri Manja', one of Mangaluru's most famous restaurateur, passed away due to cardiac arrest here on Wednesday August 12. He was 42.

Manjunath Pai is most famously known for his 'Giri Manja's' restaurant in lower Car Street, which he set up more than two decades ago. The restaurant over the years has achieved name and fame for its authentic GSB cuisine, particularly for its fresh seafood which is its speciality. The restaurant, which still retains the old-world charm and affordable prices, has even been featured by national channels like NDTV and others.

His sudden death has brought a pall of gloom among his fans, many of whom are the youth. Fondly called Manjanna by his loyal customers, Giri Manja is highly respected for keeping authentic Mangalurean cuisine alive and affordable to all, and for his warmth and hospitality.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

The mortal remains have been kept at a private hospital in the city.

May his soul rest in peace. He was so kind that he could not tolerate the guests waiting outside for seat. He himself used to come out and take the customer inside to sit inside.

    Oh painful news,

He was an excellent service provider.
His fish delicacies are perhaps as best as ever can be.

He was a friendly person, who never hesitated to have a frindly chat with clients and to make them comfortable.

No match for the quality of fish fry he used to serve. I have tasted the fish in the same hotel when his father Giri was running hotel more than 2 decades back, but Manjas quality was just superb. Fish fry is available in other places like 'Hotel Narayana' at Bunder, 'Minina mane Oota' near Kala Kunja and 'Machali' behind Navabharath near Sharada Vidyalaya, which are also delicious, but no match for Manjas Fish fry. I have not only lost a good friend, but also the opportunity of tasting such a best quality fish fry besides the best hospitality. May his Soul Rest in Peace. Hope his family would continue this tradition of running the hotel for the 3rd generation and I look forward for the same.
