Mangalore, Jun 12: Come rainy season and there is no end to tragedies, mishaps, accidents and damages. Heavy showers often coupled with storm, thunder and lightning causes havoc in the coastal belt of the state. While damages to property are common, there are also many incidents of fatalities too.

This time around though monsoons are quite silent so far, a few showers which have shown up have done considerable damage to property and life in many parts.  While whirlwind in Puttur and surrounding areas resulted in mass destruction, lightning claimed the life of a farmer and his bullock at Hebri.  Only a day ago, a house was damaged owing to heavy rains at Santhoshnagar near Munnur.

Now on Tuesday morning another house at Veeranagar near Padil was considerably damaged after a compound wall of the neighbouring house fell on it in the wee hours on June 12 morning.  The compound wall of one Chandrakala Gatti's house fell on Cyprian's house on Tuesday morning.

However, there was no one in the house when the tragedy struck.  This was sheer coincidence since the inmates had gone to their relative's house on Monday evening.  Locals said that this indeed averted a major tragedy.

The residents living in this area often face the similar problem.  The houses are built on government land which is on the top of a hillock.  During the rainy seasons no one can predict anything and most of the time these people live with the fear of landsliding when it rains cats and dogs.  But so far no measures have been taken either avert or to minimize the fatality.
