Bengaluru, Aug 16: A man who entered his mother-in-law's house in the early morning of Saturday, slit her throat and fled from the scene. Succumbing to injuries the mother-in-law died later on the way to the hospital.
The incident happened at KP Agrahara in Bengaluru. Ratnamma (45) is the deceased. Ravi Kumar, her son-in-law is still at large.
Ratnamma originally from Mandya district lived alone in city after her husband Suresh took to alcohol. She worked for a garment factory for her daily bread. Her only daughter Chaithra had married Ravi Kumar five years ago. The couple lived in Ravi Kumar’s native place with a daughter.
It is said that Ratnamma had to intervene several times in the quarrel taking place between Ravi Kumar and Chaithra. Ravi Kumar was allegedly harassing Chaithra over petty issues. Ratnamma despite many attempts had failed to ensure peace in the family of her daughter and son-in-law.Ultimately the moderator became the victim.
On the night of Friday, Ravi Kumar went to Ratnamma and talked to her about Chaithra. The conversation subsequently turned into a quarrel. Ravi Kumar blamed Ratnamma of interfering in his family matters and for instigating Chaithra against him. Ravi Kumar who left Ratnamma's house came back at 5 am on Saturday morning and knocked on her door. When she opened the door, he at once entered the house and slit her throat. When Ratnamma shouted for help, he ran away from the scene.
The neighbours came for Ratnamma's help and rushed her to the nearby hospital. The doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police have registered a case and are on the look out for the accused.
