Bangalore June 14: Karnataka on Thursday ruled out introduction of sex education in schools following a widespread protest against the move.
State Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti told newsmen here that the Union Human Resources Ministry under the Adolescence Education Programme had sent a set of material for implementation of sex education and the state government found it to be objectionable and not acceptable to the local contexts.
The toolkit developed by the National Aids Control Organisation in collaboration with other organisations contained many obscene charts and were against the cultural ethos of school children, he said.
He said he would write a letter to the Union Ministry regarding the state government's decision on introduction of sex education.
Mr Horatti said that the state government has already introduced a Life Skill Education at high school level three years ago in place of sex education to focus on health care of children. It was based on a report from National Institute of Mental Health and
Neurological Sciences here, he said.
