New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS): A self-styled health minister-cum-political advisor of NSCN-Khaplang group has been arrested in the national capital, police said on Tuesday.

Ngamsinlung Panmei was arrested from Lodi Colony area on Monday where he had gone to visit one of his contacts.

Delhi Police were looking for Panmei after getting information from Manipur Police about his presence in the capital.

"Five mobile phones, seven SIM cards and one laptop, used for communicating with members of NSCN-K and its self-styled chairman Khaplang, were seized from the arrested militant," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Rajiv Ranjan.

Police said Panmei, who joined the terrorist outfit in 1997, was hiding in Mahipalpur in south Delhi.

"Panmei was assigned the task of collection of military intelligence in Zeliangrong area. He became very close to the NSCN-K chairman S.S. Khaplang, who is presently in Myanmar," the official said.

"He met Khaplang for the first time in 1998 in Myanmar. Khaplang was impressed by his performance and he was assigned the specific task to raise funds and recruit cadres by motivating and brainwashing gullible youth," the official said.

Panmei was given the so-called rank of 'captain' and was appointed 'chairman' of Zeliangrong region in 2001.

Later, he was promoted to the rank of 'major' and then 'Deputy Home Minister'.

Presently, Panmei was the self-styled 'health minister' and 'political advisor' of the council of NSCN-K.
