MCD councillor's daughter commits suicide


New Delhi, Aug 21 (IANS): A 17-year-old daughter of a Delhi municipal councillor committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan here, police said on Friday.

Preeti, the youngest daughter of Choudhary Balraj, the councilor from Ward No.262 of East Delhi Municipal Corporation, hanged herself inside her house in Yamuna Vihar area on Thursday afternoon.

Police said Preeti, her elder sister and mother were present at the house when she committed suicide.

"She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The reason behind her extreme step is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was recovered from her possession," said a police official.

Preeti, who is survived by her parents, two elder sisters and two brothers, was pursuing B.A. first year course from Delhi University.
