Mangaluru, Aug 27: A rapist of a minor has received 7 years simple imprisonment and Rs 30,000 fine from the second additional sessions and special court on Wednesday in city. The court has directed that the fine should go as compensation to the victim.
Mohammed Ashraf (28) from Mithur in Sullia taluk is the convicted person.
As per details, the convict Mohammed Ashraf was the neighbour of the victim. The victim was also a good friend of Ashraf’s sister. On January 23 in 2013, the victim went to see her friend but she was not at home. Ashraf who instead of being courteous to his sister’s friend, pulled her into the house, locked the room and raped her. When she shouted for help, he made sure that her shouts were not heard outside by blocking her mouth with his hands.
Sullia police had registered the case and the second additional sessions and special court in city took up the trial. Justice Sarvodaya Shettigar convicted the accused on August 26 this year after examining 14 witnesses.
3 months simple imprisonment for wrongful confinement (section 342 of IPC), 7 years imprisonment for rape on a minor (section 376 of IPC and section 4 POCSO act) with Rs 30,000 fine and 6 months imprisonment for criminal intimidation (IPC 506) have been slapped on the convict. The court has said that all the sentences will run concurrently.
