Bengaluru: Mangaluru-origin call centre employee murdered for advising against smoking

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Sep 1: A call centre employee, who advised some people against smoking, was murdered with a knife in the wee hours on Monday August 31. The police have arrested three youngsters relating to this murder.

Shashank (25) from Mangaluru, who was employed in a call centre at Whitefield in the city and stayed at Kasturi Nagar here, put paid by his life in exchange for his advice against smoking.

He was murdered near Chennasandra signal at Ramamurty Nagar here. The accused, Daniel (20), Ajay (19), and Vasudevan (19), all from Hoysala Nagar here, have been arrested relating to this incident, said deputy commissioner of police, Satish Kumar.

Shashank was visited by his friends from Kerala, Vishnu and Alex, on Sunday. All the three partied at a restaurant on that night, where they also consumed liquor. From the restaurant, the three went to a tea shop near Chennasandra signal and were having tea, besides smoking there.

Three youngsters, Daniel, Ajay and Vasudevan too were drinking tea and smoking cigarettes there. Shashank advised the trio against smoking at such a young age. Angered by the advice, Daniel started to spew cigarette smoke at Shashank's face. Angered by this act, Shashank hit Daniel. This gave rise to a fight between the two groups. After the fight worsened, Daniel drew out a knife and stabbed Shashank in the chest. Shashank's friends, who developed cold feet, took their friend, who had collapsed in a pool of blood, to hospital.

By then, Shashank had died. Hoysala staff, who were on patrol duty, rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion, and arrested the accused, policemen said. A case was registered in Ramamurty Nagar police station relating to the incident.

Shocking to hear how present Youngsters react when one advice them against Smoking. It is not only in India ,but elsewhere too.In tulu their is a saying, when they get horns, feel like ,should we attack a tree or a Ochse? The Teens feel like a strong Person, want to Show with a cigarette as a big Person.Only educated ones or from a God fearing Family, normal mostly. As here These children?or Youngsters must have either Smoked forbidden drugs,or felt like who are you to tell us.better such cases dont go to advice to strangers, whom you dont know how they will react. They wont leave their Habit if you advice.Poor fellow,it is true, when you think for the better, then loose your life even.May his Soul rest in peace. And These Youngsters require a same Treatment what they did to others, but it cant be practiced,so a hard punishment require.

No doubt "smoking is injurious to health" is a good advice, but one thing we have to understand that these youngsters were in a drunken stupor that might have caused the fight and death. This incident is an example of how youngsters unnecessarily invite trouble.

He not only consumed liquor but was also smoking and advised the youngsters against smoking, this is stupidity I suppose, how can you advise others when you are holding one in your hand. By all means loss of life is saddening.

May be people commenting should read the whole news first. He advised saying at this younger age not to smoke. he didn't mention that you shouldn't smoke. People should note that this 19 year old are carrying weapons along with them.. what for?

Nagendra, can you please explain the difference between 'advised saying at this younger age not to smoke and he didn't mention that you shouldn't smoke', in your opinion is there a different meaning. One can advise good values, provided he/she practices them, you can't preach when you do not practice, that's the problem.

Should not give any free advice to anyone and anywhere. When the children grow up they don't understand what they do. An outsider giving lecture will not help at all over that shashank beat daniel. If a person doesn't like just vacate the place and go away.

20,19 are not too young age to start smoking.
I started when I was in 8th or 9th standard and quit completely by 21, 22.

I have noticed one thing, habits embraced in later stages of life are hard to get rid of.
