Anyone making films thanks to digital influx: 'Teenkahon' filmmaker

Kolkata, Sep 1 (IANS): Adman Bauddhayan Mukherji who is making his feature film debut with "Teenkahon" (Three Stories) says filmmaking today has become "easy" and "dishonesty" has crept in due to the "digital influx" of shooting.

He said the third story in the feature is his "statement about how today's films have become dishonest".

"Dishonesty as in how you make the film. That's where the dishonesty has come in today. From sheer storytelling point of view, what has happened in world cinema is thanks to the digital influx of shooting, cinema has become very easy to make so Tom, Dick, Harrys are making films," he told the media here at a promotional of "Teenkahon".

Set for a Sep 11 release, "Teenkahon" tries to capture the changing face of morality, the degeneration of values, the increasing pollution of the spoken language and the changing social fabric of Bengal through three stories spread over a hundred years from 1920.

The three stories are structured in the manner of the classical three-act play with each act (read story) exploring one facet of an obsessive relationship outside the purview of marriage.

Best known for the "Bell Bajao" campaign on domestic violence, Mukherji said earlier filmmaking was an expensive proposition but now it has become "populist" and anyone can make a film with Rs.5, Rs.10 or Rs. 15 lakhs.

" ... but does that mean the craft of filmmaking is improving? The craft doesn't necessarily improve, when it become massy.

"When you are not taking the craft forward, you are a parasite taking things from others and you make a film out of nothing."

Produced by Little Lambs Films, the movie has been showcased in over 30 film festivals across the globe, including the prestigious DC Independent Film Festival, Washington DC, and has bagged over 20 awards. It stars Rituparna Sengupta, Sabyasachi Chakarborty and Suman Mukherjee in lead roles.
