Lucknow, Sep 3 (HT) : The Samajwadi Party on Thursday pulled out of the so-called grand secular alliance, saying that it was not happy over the number of seats allotted to it for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
SP leader Ram Gopal Varma said at a press conference the party was planning to go it alone as it was not consulted by its alliance partners the Janata Dal (U), the RJD and the Congress on seat-sharing.
"We were not happy with five seats offered to us. We will talk to other parites too," Yadav said.
The SP was allotted only five seats in the contest to the 243-seat assembly -- three seats abandoned by the NCP and two given up by the RJD. Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (U) and Lalu Prasad's RJD had announced they will fight 100 seats each, with 40 going to the Congress.
