Mangaluru, Sep 4: Scores of college students under the banner of All College Students' Association on Friday September 4 organized 'Rasta Roko' for several minutes in front of University College, Hampankatta here, demanding halt on the ongoing work on the Yettinahole project.
Addressing the protest state legal advisor of All College Students' Association Dinakar Shetty said, "The government should immediately drop this project. All organizations, institutions, communities irrespective of caste, creed, gender should join the protest against the ongoing project which is a threat to the people of Dakshina Kannada."
He also alleged that there were irregularities in the project and hence the government should confiscate the assets of the officers involved in it. "In future, severe water scarcity will hit the city, and people may struggle to meet their water needs," he added.
He also slammed union law minister D V Sadananda Gowda and former minister Veerappa Moily for their stand on the project and urged them to stand by the people of Dakshina Kannada.
Speaking to daijiworld, Dinakar Shetty said, "The association will hold an internal meeting on September 7 and decide on holding all-college bandh on September 15."
On this occasion association president Rohini, executive president Donald Norohana and others were present.
Pandeshwar police who were at the spot dispersed the protestors and traffic resumed.
