Udupi, Sep 5: Sri Krishna Janmashtami was celerbrated at Sri Krishna Math here on Saturday September 5 with much devotion and vigour. While the Math has been decorated with flowers, Car Street looked vibrant with children in Muddu Krishna attires.
Acharya Madhwa had installed the deity of Lord Krishna here eight centuries ago. The chief priest personally prepares the eatables for the occasion.
While there were rituals inside the Math, the Muddu Krishnas sparkled in the vicinity of the Math. Every mother was eager to see her child in the form of Bala Krishna. While Kadagolu Krishna could be seen in Sanctum Sanctorium the Car Street was filled with Bala Krishna or Muddu Krishna. The children in these attire, eating butter, dancing to the tune of songs, weeping and dancing drew everyone's attention.
Sri Vidyavallabhateertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Math offered special prayers to Lord Krishna. Ashtami in Udupi is unique. Religious and cultural programmes are being organized in the Math coupled with various competitions like Rangoli, fancy dress, singing of devotional songs, and many others from Tuesday September 1 onward.
Arghya Pradana (libation) is the most important ritual of Sri Krishna Janmashtami. This will be performed at midnight on Saturday followed by Krishna Leelotsava the next day.
